Add your CQC rating widget to your website

If CQC has rated your service, you have to display that rating on your website, and there is a deadline. The CQC widget does it properly and updates itself when your rating changes.

Quick answer

Every CQC-regulated location has its own widget showing a summary of the latest inspection result and a link to its full CQC profile. Find your location on the CQC site, open its Resources page, copy the widget code, and replace LocationID with your own location ID, keeping type=location in the code. Ratings must be displayed on your website no later than 21 calendar days after CQC publishes them.

Step-by-step

  1. 1

Check whether you have to display a rating

You need to display your rating if your service has been rated outstanding, good, requires improvement, or inadequate. If your service is registered but not yet rated, there is nothing to display yet. The duty applies to each rated location, so a provider with several sites has several ratings.

  2. 2

    Find your location ID

Search for your service on the CQC website and open its profile. The location ID appears in the profile URL and on the location's Resources page, in the form 1-123456789. A provider ID and a location ID are different things, and the widget for a website almost always wants the location.

  3. 3

Copy the widget code from your Resources page

Each regulated place has its own widget available from its CQC page. Take the code from your own location's Resources page rather than adapting someone else's, then confirm that your location ID has replaced LocationID and that type=location appears near the end of the code.

  4. 4

Put it where patients actually look

The requirement is that the rating is displayed conspicuously. In practice that means the homepage and the About or Contact page, not buried in a footer on one page. On Adviita, open the AI editor and say: 'Add this HTML block to the homepage and the about page', then paste the widget code.

  5. 5

Check it renders and links correctly

Load the live page and confirm the widget shows your current rating and that clicking it opens your CQC profile. If it appears blank, the usual cause is a wrong location ID or the type parameter being dropped when the code was pasted. The widget pulls from CQC, so it will look empty rather than wrong if the ID does not match.

  6. 6

Meet the 21-day deadline after any change

Ratings must be on your website no later than 21 calendar days after they are published by CQC. The widget updates automatically when your rating changes, which is the main reason to use it rather than a downloaded image: a static graphic silently goes out of date and puts you in breach.

Tips & best practices

  • Use the widget rather than an image. CQC says it displays all the information required by regulation and updates itself.
  • You are not obliged to use the widget specifically, but if you display the rating another way you have to include everything the regulations require.
  • Multi-site providers need the correct widget per location. One rating shown across every site's page is inaccurate.
  • Anyone may use the widget provided they follow CQC's terms and conditions, so there is no application or approval step.

Common questions

Is displaying the rating on my website actually compulsory?

+

Yes, if your service has a rating. Providers must display ratings at their premises and on their website, and the deadline is no later than 21 calendar days after CQC publishes the rating. The widget is CQC's recommended way to do it, but it is the display that is required, not the widget specifically.

What if my rating is requires improvement or inadequate?

+

It still has to be displayed. The duty covers all four ratings, not only the favourable ones. Providers who show the rating alongside a short, factual note about what has changed since the inspection generally handle it better than those who hide it and are found not displaying it.

Why is my widget showing nothing?

+

Almost always the location ID. Check that you replaced LocationID with your own ID from your CQC profile, that you used the location ID rather than the provider ID, and that type=location is still present near the end of the code after pasting.
