How to export your Weebly site before it's deleted

Transfer your domain first

This is the only step with a permanent failure mode. If you bought your domain through Weebly, unlock it in the domain settings, request the transfer authorisation code, and start a transfer to a registrar you control. Transfers take a few days and need an active account at both ends, so leaving this until December is how people lose an address they've had for a decade.

Export the HTML archive

In your Weebly editor, open Settings, then General, and look for the archive or export option. You'll get a zip of static HTML. It is not importable anywhere else — what it is good for is proving what your site said, and letting you copy text and find image files later.

Copy your page text into a document

Go page by page and paste the copy into a single document, with the page name as a heading. This is the part people skip and regret. Your service descriptions, your about page, your FAQ answers — that's years of accumulated wording, and it is much faster to paste it into a new site than to write it again.

Download your images at full size

Right-click and save from the live site gives you the resized version, not the original. Pull images from the export archive's files folder instead, which usually holds the full-size uploads. Photos of your actual work are the hardest thing to replace.

Write down every page URL

List each page's address before the site goes dark. When you rebuild, matching those paths — or redirecting them — is what stops you losing the search rankings those pages had. Without the list you're guessing.

Save form submissions and any blog posts

Form entries stored in Weebly disappear with the account. Export them if you have anything you'd miss — enquiries, bookings, an email list. Blog posts need copying out individually; there is no clean feed export.
